We have a third floor!

Well, September 4th came and went and we're still not done with framing. It was a combination of vacations for our contractors and some small snaffus that took up some major time.

The big issue of the week was that the measurements for the stairs/third floor dormers weren't correct. Unfortunately, the house isn't the perfect rectangle we thought it was...more of a sort -of trapazoid. That means that all of the measurements shifted a tiny bit, add that to the correction it takes to fix it and we had a big issue. There was no support for one of the third floor dormers.

When I arrived on Tuesday the news was pretty doom and gloom. The options presented were to get rid of the dormers completely, or to move them off center. I was not thrilled. We stood in the foyer and hemmed and hawed and talked over the possibilities. Someone even mentioned a fake dormer? Honestly, I'm still not sure what that is...Eventually, we figured out a way to add support to the underside and the problem was solved. Once the house is built, no one will ever know it wasn't part of the plan.

So, slow and steady...

We went today and took the kids to see it. It's SO amazing to see it really coming together...to see walls going UP instead of coming down. The brick work on the front looks amazing and to see the dormers going up....ahhhhh....so relieved.

You can see the roof rafters going up and one of three dormers. You can also see the brick repair to the front. There used to be a porch there:

This was the first time we let Sutton go up the ladder. I wasn't thrilled but sometimes you just have to chill... This is her going into what we think will be her future room, her's or Everett's.  Lindsey Mix Photography-2607Lindsey Mix Photography-2607Lindsey Mix Photography completes a whole home renovation.
